What better way to be greeted than by the sights, sounds and smells of the Outpost Trading Company Boutique, located on the corner of Sagunto and Edison Street in downtown Santa Ynez.
Described as “country chic to city sleek,” the Outpost Trading Company offers their vast clientele the “best of the best” in high-end western wear, original art and custom jewelry.
“I travel the world always searching for the most unique, one of a kind pieces that no one else carries.” says store manager and buyer Lenni Ayres. “If you can dream it, we can find or make it,” Such treasures on display include handmade denim vests with the finest crystals and hides from Jody Reese, a Central Coast cowgirl turned fashion designer; Native American bedding, blankets, bracelets, necklaces and turquoise rings; custom furniture crafted from old barn wood and copper; hand-stitched purses from Barbara Clark (Abara Designs); and designer baby jackets from Lana Designs.
“Customers can always expect a surprise behind the door,” says Ayres, who also assists clients with custom and interior design. “We’re always changing – always new.” The Outpost Trading Company focuses on fashion-forward trends while instilling a love for the West. The stylish boutique has even gone so far as creating its own perfume, No. 18.
Opened in March of 1999, the Outpost Trading Company is the brainchild of George Stout, local owner and cutting horse legend. Today, Stout’s distinctive boutique continues to impress with genuine products and impeccable service. “People try to copy us,” Ayres admits, “but so far they haven’t been successful.”
